The American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen test (CGC) is a certification program that evaluates dogs in simulated everyday situations in a relaxed, noncompetitive atmosphere. Dogs that pass the CGC test are considered reliable family and community members and will receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

Canine Good Citizen Training

Estimated length for this course is 8-10 Weeks and prepares your dog for the CGC test. Classes are 90 minutes long with a mixture of in-home training and "field trips" to surrounding parks/stores.

  • Proper heel, sit, stay, and recall from distance
  • Walking through crowds
  • Greeting Strangers
  • Staying focused even when other animals are present
  • Supervised separation

This course is best intended for dogs with a strong foundation and looking to advance their skill set to become working animals. An evaluation will be performed during the first class to gauge the dog's ability.

What is the Canine Good Citizen test?

The CGC is the most widely recognized and respected certification for dogs. It demonstrates that your dog has been trained to live in harmony with people, other animals, property, and the environment. A certified dog also shows his or her owner how well-behaved they are by being obedient, friendly, clean, quiet, calm, polite, gentle, trustworthy, confident, alert, responsive, trainable, eager to please, and willing to work.
